Fret Buster #25

The crosses which we make for ourselves by a restless anxiety as to the future, are not crosses which come from God. We show want of faith in Him by our false wisdom wishing to forestall His arrangements, and struggling to supplement His providence by our own providence. The future is not yet ours; perhaps it never will be. If it comes, it may come wholly different from what we have foreseen. Let us shut our eyes, then, to that which God hides from us and keeps in reserve in the treasure of His deep counsels. Let us worship without seeing; let us be silent; let us abide in peace. –Fenelon

Fret Buster #26

God is tranquil. So must your spirit become a tranquil and clear little pool, wherein the serene light of God can be mirrored. Therefore shun all that is disquieting and distracting, both within and without. Nothing in the whole world is worth the loss of your peace; even the faults which you have committed should only humble, but not disquiet, you. God is full of joy, peace, and happiness. Endeavor then to obtain a continually joyful and peaceful spirit. Avoid all anxious care, vexation, murmuring, and melancholy, which darken your should and render you unfit for the friendship of God. If you perceive such feelings arising, turn gently away from them. –Gerhard Tersteegen

Fret Buster #27

Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength.
-Corrie Ten Boom

Fret Buster #28

Worry is a cycle of inefficient thoughts whirling around a center of fear.
-Corrie Ten Boom

Fret busters #23 and #24

Fret buster #23:

There is one thing that God says to every believer, regardless of his circumstances—“Trust Me.”

“Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.” Psalm 37:3

Fret buster #24:

Confidence is not based on you having all the resources needed to take care of yourself; confidence is based upon the truth that God is faithful.

Fret busters #21 and #22

Fret buster #21:

We need sanctified imaginations. It is easy for any of us to fret and have our imaginations run wild. In reality, most things don’t happen the way we imagined them.

Fret buster #22:

The Bible says, “The just shall live by faith.” It doesn’t say, “The just shall live by their imaginations.” The Word of God builds your faith; your imagination can be a fast track to worry. Worry says, “What will happen to me, things seem out of control.” Faith says, “My life is in God’s hands and He is in control.”

Fret busters #19 and #20

Fret buster #19:

“I will hear what God the Lord will speak, For He will speak peace To His people and to His saints;” Psalm 85:8

Fret buster #20:

Worrying about a circumstance won’t change the circumstance, but worry will change you.

Fret busters #16, #17 and #18

Fret buster #16:

The government (the rule and reign of your life) is upon His shoulders. He hasn’t placed any of it on yours. He has a plan and purpose for your life and He not only knows where He is taking you, but He also knows how to get you there.

Fret buster #17:

God is in control. Things won’t always be the way they are right now.
God knows how and when to bring about change. Trust His timing, He doesn’t make mistakes.

Fret buster #18:

“Be still, and know that I am God;” Psalm 46:10

Fret busters #13, #14 and #15

Fret buster #13:

If you don’t have peace about what you are doing, stop doing it.

Fret buster #14:

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27

Fret buster #15:

The peace that God gives you is not circumstantial peace. Being in a hammock at the beach on a warm sunny day is not a picture of God’s peace. Remember, the peace in your heart is God’s peace; it’s there because He’s there, not because everything around you is calm and serene.

When a thought of anxiety comes knocking on the door of your mind you must refuse it entrance. If you invite it in, it will have dinner with you, and if it has dinner with you it will quickly move in and want to spend the night.

How do you cast your care on Him?

1. Get out your “fishing pole of faith”
2. Take all your cares and put them on a hook.
3. Tie the hook to the line on your fishing pole.
4. Cast the line as far as you can into the sea of God’s faithfulness.
5. Cut the line to make sure you don’t reel back all your cares.

Fret busters #9 and #10

Fret buster #9:

There once was a man who worried all the time.
One day a friend noticed that he had stopped worrying.
“How did you do it?” the friend asked.
“It’s simple; I hired a man to do all my worrying for me.”
“How much did that cost you?”
“I agreed to pay him a thousand dollars a week.”
“How can you pay him? You only make five hundred dollars a week.”
“Well, I guess that’s his worry!”

Fret buster #10:

“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

Fret busters #7 and #8

Fret buster #7:

Anxiety cannot abide in your heart when God’s peace comes. It is a peace your reason cannot explain. You cannot ‘reason’ peace into your heart. Peace comes because God gives it to you. Your circumstances may be anything but peaceful, yet His peace can abide within you.

Fret buster #8:

Is there something you are anxious about? If you are depressed, ask God to reveal the cause. It is possible that the root cause is anxiety.

“Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression,”
Proverbs 12:25
