New Day

Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish which you have just caught”…. “Come and eat breakfast.”John 21:9,12 nkjv

Jesus gathered those He loved around an open fire in the early morning hours to share some breakfast together. He used this informal setting to reveal Himself to them after His resurrection. He reassured them in their uncertainty, and refreshed them in their weariness. He turned a difficult evening into a glorious new day.

Being Still

In his book Emblems of the Holy Spirit, F.E. Marsh shares the following thoughts:

“In every life
There’s a pause that is better than onward rush,
Better than hewing, or mightiest doing;
‘Tis the standing still at sovereign will.
There’s a hush that is better than ardent speech,
Better than sighing, or wilderness crying;
‘Tis the being still at sovereign will.
The pause and the hush sing a double song
In unison low, and for all time long.
O, human soul. God’s working plan
Goes on, nor needs the aid of man,
Stand still, and see,
Be still, and know.”

Heaven Is Better

It is good to walk the path of a pilgrim;
It is better to arrive at your glorious destination.
It is good to live the life of faith;
It is better to receive faith’s final reward.
It is good to overcome and persevere;
It is better to wear the victor’s crown.
It is good to live for Jesus day by day;
It is better to see Jesus face to face.

The God of Hope

I was on a return flight from Mexico. I had just spent 5 days with my brother, Don, who was very ill with cancer. As I reflected upon the blessings of my visit and the difficulty of his situation, I wrote down some thoughts that were coming to my spirit. I share them with you now (I didn't realize it at the time, but hours after I wrote these thoughts, my brother fell into the arms of Jesus.)

Who takes our hands within the fight,
And makes us triumph by His might?
The God of hope.

Who lifts us up on eagle’s wings,
And gives our hearts a song to sing?
The God of hope.

Who brings us to His loving side,
And keeps us close as we abide?
The God of hope.

Who moves our feet to higher ground,
And takes us where His grace is found?
The God of hope.

Who floods our eyes with heaven’s light,
And rescues us from darkest night?
The God of hope.

Who comes to us in perfect love,
And turns our hearts to things above?
The God of hope.
